Are you going to Bali anytime soon and not sure if you need a visa? I’m here to help! I’ve created a complete guide with all the information you need when it comes to visas! Don’t stress, it’s pretty straightforward and easy!!!

As you know, Bali is BOOMING! But what are the current regulations when it comes to traveling to Bali? Do you need a visa to go to Bali? And if so, what kind? And how long can you stay in Bali on a tourist visa?

Keep reading to find out everything you need to know before booking a ticket to the island of the gods.

DO YOU NEED A VISA TO TRAVEL TO BALI?

YES YOU DO, but don’t worry it’s actually a very easy process! Most countries ( UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and all European countries) are eligible for a Visa On Arrival (unless you’re a citizen of ASEAN countries, then you don’t need one).

If you’re from an eligible country and staying in Bali on vacation for less than 60 days, you have 2 options:

  1. You can buy a Visa On Arrival (VOA) at the airport when you land

  2. You can apply for an Electronic Visa-on-Arrival (E-VOA) before you go arrive in Bali

OPTION 1: BUY A VISA ON ARRIVAL (VOA) ) AT THE AIRPORT

When you land in Bali, at passport control in the airport, continue to the main desk following the main cue and your VOA and date will be stamped in your passport. You’ll have to pay a small fee (around 35 USD), which you can pay with a credit card.

OPTION 2: APPLY FOR AN E- VISA ON ARRIVAL ONLINE BEFORE GOING TO BALI

If you don’t want to wait in line when arriving at the aiport in Bali, you can now apply for an E-VISA ON ARRIVAL! Simply surf to this website and follow the required steps: The Official eVisa website for Indonesia (imigrasi.go.id)

The application for the E-Visa On Arrival can be submitted from wherever you are. The verification process will be quick, which is 3 - 5 working days (or quicker!!), and then the visa will be sent to your email address.

When can you apply for an E-VOA? You can apply for an e-VOA up to 90 days before arrival.

HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY IN BALI ON A TOURIST VISA?AND HOW TO EXTEND?

The E-VOA is initially valid for 30 days, but you can extend it once for another 30 days. So you get 60 days in total. Extending your visa has never been easier… in the past you had to make several trips to the Immigration offices to be able to extend it but as from this year you can do it super easy yourself and extend it online.

IMPORTANT!!!!! KEEP IN MIND YOU CAN ONLY EXTEND ONLINE IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR VISA ONLINE!!! You won’t be able to extend online if you bought your visa at the airport.

SOME TIPS FOR WHEN YOU’RE USING THE E VOA WEBSITE

The system is not very user-friendly and often returns errors. Here are some tips for a successful e-VOA submission:

  1. On the very first page, select ‘General, Family, or Social’ as the purpose, then ‘Tourism, Family Visit, and Transit’ as the sub-purpose.

  2. Next, ensure you select ‘B1 – Tourism (Visa on Arrival)’ for the eVOA. We’ve heard of people selecting the ‘Tourist Single Entry Visa (60 days)’ by accident which costs 4x the price.

  3. On the next page, your personal photo must be uploaded as a .jpg file (most smartphone photos are already in this format) whereas the photo of your passport must be converted into a .pdf file first. Here’s how to convert it:

    – For Android users, Google Photos has a built-in ‘convert to PDF’ option

    – If using Apple Photos, select the share icon, then choose ‘print’, then select the share icon again, and save.

    – On a computer, open the photo, select ‘print’, and choose ‘Microsoft Print to PDF’ on Windows PC or ‘PDF’ on Apple Mac.
